Supernatural 3.01 The Magnificent Seven
OK so I can't contain myself any longer! Just finished watching so this probably won't be the most coherent post ever but here's some thoughts on the Season 3 premiere *dances*
- Started off great, we have bookish Sam out in the car while Dean's getting busy with some hot chick. Everything's back to normal! Yay! Then the next thing we have is Dean stuffing his face with a burger. Honestly, nothing has changed at all. My boys are back and I am happy :D
- Actually, speaking of the beginning. I am a Dean girl through and through. But those first shots of Sam? Close up big Sam face with HUGE Sam hair (OMFG had Jared been using miracle grow on his head or something?! That hair is FUCKING AWESOME!).... well, I kinda melted a bit. I think I might be coming round to the puppy. Yeah, he's definitely wearing me down!
- When Dean gets punched out by Isaac I loved the way they had the camera shot of Bobby upside down, and Dean waving his hand around "hello???" made me laugh my arse off.
- The shoe fight was hilarious too. OK so it was a bit gruesome and I shouldn't be laughing at what the demons do but it did kinda remind me of the first day of the sales at Harrod's or something.
- Bobby. Oh my word, he totally OWNED this episode! Bobby in a suit? Bobby shouting his head off? Bobby driving his car through the freakin' door of the bar?! WOOT! (I must add here that for a split second I thought they were driving the Impala into the bar and I had a terrible Pilot flashback. But it's OK, no Babys were harmed in the making of this episode)
- Sam getting into the back of the car and pushing Dean up against the dashboard. Hello? Wincest much?! I could watch that bit all night :D
- I know pretty much the whole world and his dog saw the preview clip with the "What's in the box?" quote but it has to be mentioned again. This is the Dean we love, cracking jokes which no one else appreciates and at completely inappropriate moments. Sam and Bobby's faces were priceless. As was Dean's afterwards.
- Film quotes again! Pride's "Here's Johnny!" made me grin, even if it is one of the most overquoted.......um... quotes. Heh. I still love that film so any reference does make me giggle.
- New girl! OK, I don't know what her name is. But I thought she was pretty good. I know there's been the most humungous debate raging about the addition of regular female characters. But I'm actually looking forward to it. It's about time there was some decent girls in the show. I did have to laugh tho, when she rocked up with her crazy ass knife and started slashing the demons I was sat here going "Who the hell are you?!".... cue Sam about 5 seconds later "Who the hell are you?!" . I swear there was another bit of dialogue I half predicted too but I can't remember what it is right now. I thought some of the dialogue was a bit stilted, not that well written. Not what I'd come to expect from SPN basically. Especially (and I know I just said he was ace but this bit wasn't quite right) when Bobby said "It's the seven deadly sins!" he just sounded a bit daft.
- Right so my biggest rant, but I will try and keep it to a minimum is about Dean. I'm not going to completely spaz out because I know this is only the first episode, and even though it's been a long time for fangirls, it's only been a week for the boys. So Dean's still completely fucked up about what he did for Sammy. I understand that. But I don't like the way he's suddenly got this massive death wish going on. (I just realised that was the other bit I "predicted" - Sam voiced my thoughts about Dean right at the end. although that wasn't really a surprise, he had it bloody coming.) Oh don't worry about me, I'll just stay here and try fighting off 5 demons at once, you guys go ahead without me. No Dean! Bad squishy! I totally get that he's had enough, he's tired (God DAMNIT that bit nearly did me in!) but he just can't give up like that. This is not the Dean we want. But I'm not going to freak out about this, it's only to be expected from him after everything he's done. I know he's got a long way to go. I just don't want him to push Sam's help away for too long. I think Sam was right when he said Dean was being selfish. Dean was so fucked up after John died in his place and now he's done the same thing. There's going to be some MASSIVE angst coming out over this, I'm hoping Dean will come to realise just how much this whole thing is going to hurt Sam, rather than just pushing him away and not giving a shit anymore. Seriously, man, this series is going to kill me. All this crap needs to be sorted out and right now I have NO theories whatsoever about how it will be but I can't wait to find out. I'm just keeping my tissues handy ^_^
And so a quote to finish:
Sam: "You're unbelievable."
Dean: "Very true."
Me: "OHHHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYY EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! You boys!"
:D
ETA: I'm trying my hardest to stay spoiler free so just in case anyone wants to comment, please don't tell me anything controversial!
ETA2: Just found this on The CW Source site. There's some wee polls to vote in about the Season Premiere. This sentence kinda caught my eye:
"We were also intrigued by Dean -- how was he able to shrug off Lust's influence? Is he immune from demon intervention? If so, that may make it difficult for the Crossroads Demon to collect on her deal..."
Well well. Hadn't thought about that before. Have they just discovered a nice big loophole in Dean's deal? He did manage to break the hold that Lust had on him fairly easily. What made Dean's situation so different to Isaac's when he was overcome by Gluttony and drank the drain cleaner? I could just say, well it's Dean, of course he's going to be better. But that's just the fangirl in me coming out. There was no devil's trap, he didn't seem to weaken her in any way and then he suddenly managed to shove her head into the bath.
Go Dean! *ahem* sorry I was trying to be sensible wasn't I?

I agree with your rant about Dean. I do get why he is being an ass and I'm interested to see how it develops, but they went too far with his attitude in this ep IMO. But I think that's down to Kripke's weakness as a writer, he's not the most subtle one on the team, so it shouldn't be as in-your-face in the next couple of episodes. Hopefully. :P
